September 2016, the George Thomas “Mickey” Leland Federal Building was recognized by AGC (Associated General Contractors) Houston at the APEX Awards. 4b Technology Group was part of the Gensler design team in the comprehensive renovation project.
The 22 story Mickey Leland Federal Building underwent a modernization and upgrade, including cladding replacement, restroom refurbishment, new ADA restrooms, lobby and common area finishes upgrade, complete HVAC overhaul, new ceilings, lights, ductwork, VAV boxes, Plaza redevelopment, Breezeway replacement, and garage and tunnel enhancements. 4b Technology provided the communication and information systems and infrastructure for the ground floor. 4b also provided temporary swing space for the six and seventh floors, using the existing telecommunications room / IDF space. Scope of services included the design and construction administration for the first, six and seventh floor renovation and upgrade. As additional services, 4b provided the relocation of building security surveillance cabinets and camera power supplies from the 2nd floor Federal Protection Services suite to the new 1st floor suite.
