A new (2) story building of approximately 70,000 SF, which will combine the Houston Health Department (HHD) Multi-Service Center, Houston Parks and Recreations Department (HPARD), Community Center, and a Houston Public Library (HPL) regional location.  The building will be owned and managed by the COH General Services Department and will have a shared use area of 27,700 SF to include a lobby, meeting rooms, classrooms, storage and management offices. HHD will have an area of 11,000 SF. for diabetes awareness, WIC, senior center, and outside agencies.  HPARD will have 10,500 SF for a full-size gym, arts and craft rooms, kiln room along with a weight/fitness room. HPL will occupy 13,800 SF with specific adult, teen, juvenile and toddler areas, reading rooms, conference rooms and study corrals.

 

The new building will be located at the site of the existing 37-acre Alief Community Center in Alief Park and will also have a parking garage and surface parking for 300 cars. Park amenities will be re-designed and include the redevelopment of lighted soccer/football fields within the existing running trail, baseball/softball fields, tennis courts, basketball/pavilion, swimming pool with bath house spray ground, picnic areas, jogging trails and a relocation of the existing children’s playground.

 

Design services for the project include refreshing and updating the programs for the client departments, such as a Tech Link Computer Lab for classes and software training that HPL will need to meet the program requirements summarized above.
