Southwest Airlines West Concourse Expansion at Houston Hobby Airport
$470,000,000
The Austin‑Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) IT Building expansion is a mission‑critical facility designed to serve as the central hub for the airport’s technology and communications infrastructure, supporting continuous and reliable airfield operations. Expanded from approximately 10,000 SF to over 40,000 SF, the facility consolidates core IT systems into a resilient, scalable environment capable of accommodating anticipated growth over the next two decades. The technology design emphasizes high availability and redundancy, including a Tier III concurrently maintainable data center and N+1 mechanical systems to ensure uninterrupted operations and protect critical loads during maintenance or failure events
Security design is integral to the facility, anchored by a hardened, high‑security communications “bunker” that houses critical infrastructure and functions as the operational nerve center of the airport. The building is strategically organized to separate this secure zone from administrative and office areas, implementing layered access control and minimizing exposure of sensitive systems. Additional measures include robust perimeter protection—such as vehicular barriers, anti‑climb fencing, and integrated landscape security features—supporting force protection and risk mitigation. Collectively, the project delivers a secure, future‑ready technology environment that enhances operational resilience while maintaining a functional and collaborative workspace for IT personnel.
